What is Giyaarween Shareef ?

A gathering on any day, though generally on 11th of the lunar calendar, consisting of recitation of
the Holy Quraan, Zikr (Remembrance of Allaah Ta’aala), reading Faatihah and distributing food to send the reward to Huzoor Ghaus e A’zam Saiyyidinah Shaiekh Saiyyid Abdul Qaadir Jeelaani (May Allaah be well pleased with him) is called Giyaarween Shareef. Its basis in the religion is from the concept of sending reward to others. This is commonly known as Ieesaal-e-Sawaab, and it has been proven from the Quraan and Sunnah.

What is Ieesaal-e-Sawaab?
Ieesaal-e-Sawaab is act of performing a virtuous deed and sending the spiritual reward to another.
Allaah (Most Exalted) says:
“And those who came after them submit, O our Lord! Forgive us and our brothers who preceded
us in the faith” ( Quraan-Al-Hashr:10)
This proves that the prayer of Muslims for the forgiveness of other Muslims is from Quraanic teachings and Ieesaal-e-Sawaab is actually a form of supplication (Dua).
In a Hadees related from both Imaam Bukhaari and Imaam Muslim, the Mother of the Believers
Hazrat Ayeshaa Siddiqaa (May Allaah be well pleased with her) narrated that a person asked a question about sending reward (Ieesaal-e-Sawaab) to his mother at which the Holy Prophet (Peace
be upon him) replied that the reward of your charity (Sadaqa and khaieraat) would, in fact, reach her. According to another Hadees in the Musnad of Imaam Ahmed, Hazrat Anas (May Allaah be
well pleased with them) inquired that “For our deceased, we make dua, give charity and perform Pilgrimage; does it reach them?” The Holy Prophet (Peace be upon him) replied, “Yes, certainly
it reaches them and they are pleased with it just like you are pleased with each others gifts.”

Hazrat Ghaus e A'zam Shaiekh Saiyyid Abdul Qaadir Jeelaani [Rahmatul Laah Alaieh]

There are different duties of the Auliyaa Allaah and they have been blessed differently. We don’t understand. There are 124 000 different degrees of Friendship Of Allaah Kareem [Wilayat] and every one of them is on the footsteps of a Rasoolul Laah [Sallal Laahu Alaieh Wa Sallam]. Therefore it is said, ‘Only a Walee is able to recognize a Walee’.
Speech Excerpt- Hazrat Maulana Muhammad Shafee Okarvi [Rahmatul Laah Alaieh]

Life Events -Of Hazrat Ghaus e A'zam Shaiekh Saiyyid Abdul Qaadir Jeelaani [Rahmatul Laah Alaieh] continued...excerpt speech by Allaamah Kaukab Noorani Okarvi Childhood...Events

When Hazrat Ghaus al-A’zam [Rahmatul Laah Alaieh] reached the age of physical maturity, about sixteen or seventeen, then his teacher said, ‘Allaah Kareem has blessed you abundantly and much potential lies within you, so you should leave our little city, which has no facilities for higher learning and go to a bigger city that has a University for higher education.’ Hazrat Ghaus al-A’zam [Rahmatul Laah Alaieh] conferred with his mother, who agreed with his teacher and said, ‘Allaah Kareem... has created you for a great task. The circles you will move in and the field of Divine Learning [Marifat] requires that you be highly educated in the religion.’

Hazrat Ghaus al-A’zam [Rahmatul Laah Alaieh] blessed mother asked him to undertake the journey to Baghdad but he should not lie under any circumstances. She sewed forty gold dinars in the seam of his coat and set him on his way. On the way highway robbers laid siege to the traveling party.

The robbers mercilessly attacked the caravan. Hazrat Ghaus al-A’zam [Rahmatul Laah Alaieh] stood on one side and watched the pillage. A robber passed by Hazrat Ghaus al-A’zam [Rahmatul Laah Alaieh] and asked if he has anything of value. Hazrat said he has forty dinars on him. The robber taught he was joking since he cut a lonely figure standing with no baggage. He left and when the robbers gathered in front of their leader, he inquired if they had robbed all the travelers. They answered in the affirmative. The robber who had passed by Hazrat Ghaus al-A’zam [Rahmatul Laah Alaieh] said that one boy of eighteen to twenty of age had said he has forty dinars on him but he thinks he is joking. The leader asked loudly, ‘who, is this boy who has the nerve to joke with us. Bring him to me immediately.’ Hazrat was brought to him and on seeing Hazrat’s beautiful face his life was transformed.’ The faces of the Beloved’s Of Allaah Kareem possess blessing, spirituality and light as an indication of their sublime status and attachment to enlightened ones. Hazrat Ghaus al-A’zam [Rahmatul Laah Alaieh] was a member of the family of the Holy Prophet [Sallal Laahu Alaieh Wa Sallam],a born Walee and leader of all Auliyaa. Wilaayat has a class about it. The leader of the robbers had seen many people but this was a unique face possessing, innocence, beauty, spirituality and light. His face indicated that he was a flower from an exceptional garden. The leader of the robbers marveled at the radiance of Hazrat Ghaus al-A’zam [Rahmatul Laah Alaieh]’s face and asked him if he had anything on him. Hazrat replied that he had forty dinar on him that was sewn into his coat by his mother. The robber was amazed at his honesty. On enquiry Hazrat Ghaus al-A’zam [Rahmatul Laah Alaieh] told him that his name was Abdul al-Qaadir, he was a direct descendant of Imaam Hasan and Imaam Husaien [Radiyal Laah Anhum] traveling to Baghdad to further his studies. The leader of the robbers said,
O ‘Abdul al-Qaadir if you told me you have nothing on you I would never have suspected you are carrying wealth and it would have helped you in a strange land. Hazrat Ghaus al-A’zam [Rahmatul Laah Alaieh] replied, ‘I could have hidden it from you, but in the process I would have to lie. I left home and promised my mother I would never lie. I could give my life but I cannot break my promise to my mother.’ These words of truth uttered by the truthful one had an effect on the heart of the robber. The words of the Friends Of Allaah Kareem have great effect on the listener. The robber began crying and said, ‘This young man fears displeasing his mother whereas I have transgressed the Laws of Allaah[Ta’aalaa] and thereby earned the displeasure of the Holy Prophet Muhammad [Sallal Laahu Alaieh Wa Sallam]’. The robber repented and sought forgiveness for his sins. He asked Hazrat Ghaus al-A’zam [Rahmatul Laah Alaieh] to raise his hands and make Dua for him with that blessed tongue that has so much of effect in it. Hazrat Ghaus al-A’zam [Rahmatul Laah Alaieh] replied, ‘I will pray for you on condition that you return all the goods you plundered from our caravan to their owners’. The robber returned everything, including the forty dinars. When Hazrat Ghaus al-A’zam [Rahmatul Laah Alaieh] began his supplication [dua] the other robbers requested that they also be included in the supplication. In the course of the dua the fate of the robbers changed to the extent that Allaah Kareem granted them Wilaayat.

As a result of Hazrat Ghaus al-A’zam [Rahmatul Laah Alaieh] practicing truthfulness 40-70 thieves repented, became true Muslim, were admitted in the ranks of the righteous [Saliheen] and the plundered goods were also returned....Sub Haan Allaah!!!

The Friendship of Allaah [Walaayat] is of three kinds...

.Friends of Allaah- Auliyaa Allaah and thier Grades-
And their excellence is also in the same order.
1. Fitree (Born):
Those who are Friends of Allaah Kareem (also known
as the holy masters) by birth.
2. Wahbee (Gifted):
Those who become Friends of Allaah, by someone’s
gracious glance (nazar-e-Karam) and bounty  (faiez).
3. Kasbee (Earned):
Those who become Friends of Allaah Kareem by hard
work and devotion. Meaning, through abundant worship
with sincerity and purity.

Hazrat Saiyyidinaa Khawaajah Saiyyid Mu'een ud deen Hasan Chishti Ajmeri Sarkaar Gareeb Nawaaz (Radiyal Laahu 'Anhu) Khilaafat In The Chishtia Silsilaah

Translated Lecture of Hazrat Maulana Muhammad Shafee Okarvi- [Rahmatul Laahi Alaieh]-South Africa
Hazrat Khawaajah Mu’een ud Deen (May Allaah Kareem be well pleased with him) says that after full 20 years hard training in the Science of Spirituality (Tasawwuf) under this great Spiritual Guide, at the age of 46, in the year 582 AH at Baghdad, he was awarded Khilaafat in the Chishtia Silsilaah. At this stage he could see everything from the Abyss of the Earth (tahtus sudra) and up to The Glorious Veil (al-Hijaab e Azmat).

If this is the status of the Friend Of Allaah Kareem (Walee ul Laah) then what must have been the status of the Prophet’s Companions (Sahaaba’s), the Prophets of Allaah Kareem and the Leader of all Prophets, the Holy Prophet (Peace be upon him, his family and his companions)?
What do certain people believe in this 14th Century after Hijraah? I have the book available in which they say that the Holy Prophet (Peace be upon him, his family and his companions) did not even know what was behind the wall. They have not understood the status of the Holy Prophet (Peace be upon him, his family and his companions). The Spiritual Master of Spiritual Masters (Khawaajah e Khawaajaah gaan) Hazrat Khawaajah Bahaa ud deen Naqshbandi (May Allaah Kareem be well pleased  with him) says,
‘According to us the Perfect Spiritual Guide (Kaamil Walee) is he who witnesses the whole earth as one sees ones fingernails.’ This is the status of Auliyaa Allaah Kareem.
Should I not tell you about the Companions (sahaabah)? Once the Holy Prophet (Peace be upon him, his family and his companions) summoned Hazrat Zayed ibn Haaris (may Allaah Kareem be well pleased  with him) and enquired about his spiritual state.
He replied, ‘Sir, my state is such that I can see unto the Divine Throne (arsh) and I recognize every person destined for heaven and every person destined for hell. Further, my beloved Prophet, if you grant me permission I will relate everything that is to occur till The Day Of Judgment (Qiyaamah) and what would occur on The Day Of Judgment.’ The Holy Prophet (Peace be upon him, his family and his companions) replied, ‘There is no need to do so. Do not reveal Divine Secrets.’
If this is the state of the slaves of the Holy Prophet, then what must his status be? Therefore my friends and elders, everything is revealed to the Auliyaa Allaah but they do not reveal it, obeying Allaah Kareem’s command to conceal it. So Khawaajah Saahib strove for three years and he said that he could see everything up to The Glorious Veil (al-Hijaab e Azmat).
After being granted Khilaafat in the Chishtia Silsilaah he was ordered  by Khawaajah Usmaan Harooni (May Allaah Kareem be well pleased with him) to proceed to Madeenah, the Illuminated. Khawaajah Saahib says he then left and performed Hajj.
After Hajj, he went to Madeenah, the Illuminated. In those days there was no problem of passports and visas  so he spent six months at the blessed Burial Chamber of the Holy Prophet (Peace be upon him, his family and his companions).
After six months the Holy Prophet addressed him and said,  "O, Helper Of Our Religion (Mu’een ud Deen), Pivot Of Spiritual Guides (Qutb al-Mashaiekh), We put India under your charge where darkness prevails go and cleanse it of Polytheism (shirk) and Misbelief (kufr).
Allaah Kareem’s Divine Help is with you and my Look of Blessing is upon you.’ the Holy Prophet (Peace be upon him, his family and his companions) bestowed the titles of Helper of the Religion (Mu’een ud Deen) and Pivot of Spiritual Guides (Qutb al-Mashaikh) to Khawaajah Saahib.

Hazrat Saiyyidinaa Khawaajah Saiyyid Mu'een ud deen Hasan Chishti Ajmeri Sarkaar Gareeb Nawaaz (Radiyal Laahu 'Anhu)

The Search for a Spiritual Guide
Translated Lecture of Hazrat Maulana Muhammad Shafee Okarvi- [Rahmatul Laahi Alaieh]-South Africa
Hazrat Saiyyidinaa Khawaajah Saiyyid Mu'een ud deen Hasan
Chishti Ajmeri Sarkaar Gareeb Nawaaz (Radiyal Laahu 'Anhu)

Hazrat Khawaajah Saahib had acquired the external knowledge and now set out to acquire a Spiritual Guide. Near Neshapur was a village called Harwaan or Haroon. In this village resided a renowned Walee who was the Cardinal Pole (Qutb) of the time, Hazrat Khawaajah Usmaan Harooni (May Allaah Kareem be well pleased with him).

On the very first meeting with Hazrat Khawaajah Usman Harooni (May Allaah Kareem be well pleased with him), having never met or seen each other before, Khawaajah Usmaan stated, ‘Mu’een ud deen! I have been waiting for you. Come to me!’
He became a disciple (mureed) and was then consigned to a Hujraa  to ‘worship Allaah Kareem’ (Ibaadat) and ‘strive on the path’ (Riyaazaat) .Remember nothing is attained without, sincere worship, striving and a concentrated effort. Allaah Kareem (Almighty and Glorious is He) says in the Holy Qur'aan in the 29th Soorah, al-Ankabuut, Verse 69:

And those who strive in Our way (to know Us and Our Attributes), We will certainly guide them to Our Paths

One has to strive on this path. The Holy Prophet (Peace be upon him, his family and his companions), despite being the beloved of Allaah Kareem and the Cause of Creation still worshipped and strove. He stood so still at night for such long durations that the blood capillaries on his blessed foot used to burst.

Allaah Kareem (Almighty and Glorious is He) had to tell him in the Holy Qur'aan, in the 73rd Soorah, al-Muzzammil, Verses 1to 3:

O thou folded in garments! Stand (to prayer) by night, but not all night, half of it, or a little less,

And, also, in the 20th Soorah, Ta-Ha, Verses 1 and 2:

Taa-haa  (O Fourteenth Moon!) We have not sent down the Qur’aan to thee to put you in difficulty,

The Holy Prophet (Peace be upon him, his family and his companions) strove in the path of Allaah Kareem. The Mother of the Believers, Hazrat Ayeshaah Siddeeqah (may Allaah Kareem be well pleased with her) says,
‘I observed the extent of the Mujahidaah ,ibaadaat and Riyaazaat striving of the Holy Prophet (Peace be upon him, his family and his companions) and at times I wept. Then I enquired as to why he put himself through this difficulty, for he is the beloved of Allaah Kareem?’
The Holy Prophet (Peace be upon him, his family and his companions) replied, ‘Should I not be a grateful servant of Allaah Kareem?’ So one has to strive on this Path of Return to Allaah Kareem. Without effort nothing is attained.

Let me explain something for your understanding. Raw Gold cannot adorn a neck as jewelry unless and until it burns itself in a blazing fire. Gold loses its hard arrogance and becomes humbly soft in fire.
Then it can be molded into jewelry. Still as jewelry it is not left alone. It is now rubbed and polished till it loses its outer skin, shines. Initially it was gold and it still is as a jewel but it had to burn in fire and lose its skin to increase its beauty, worth and value. First it was just gold but now it is worthy of adorning the neck of the beloved.

The Auliyaa Allaah are full of worth but more shine is added after Mujahadah, Ibaadaat and Riyaazaat. Their worth is increased. The eye-make-up (surma) is a stone that becomes worthy of being put onto the eye after being grinded and made fine. It becomes a source of beautification and increase of sight for the eye.

Thus without striving in the path of Allaah Kareem, ones value does not increase.
One has to strive on this path, burn and annihilate oneself. One has to mix into the soil and become soil. Let me tell you a Soofie Anecdote:
A log if it is buried in the ground will decompose. The same log if it is burned and made into coal and then buried will retain its composure even after a thousand years. Thus those who burn themselves in the Fire of Divine Love (Ishq e Illaahie), even when they are buried, their bodies remain intact.

Those who have not burned in the Fire Of Divine Love will not understand. Khawaajah Mu’een ud deen Hasan Chishti (May Allaah Kareem be well pleased with him) strove in the path of Allaah Kareem performing Riyaazaat for three years.
After a year his Spiritual Master called him and asked him as to what he could see and he replied, “I can see the seven heavens and the seven earths and whatever is on them.”
Khawaajah Mu’een ud Deen Chishti himself records this.So he replied, “I can see the seven heavens and the seven earths and whatever is on them.” Khawaajah Usmaan Harooni (May Allaah Kareem be well pleased with him) said, “You are not ready yet.” and sent him back into the Hujraa.[Chamber]. Another year passed and he was asked as to what he could see and he replied, “I can see the abyss of the earth (tahtus sudraa) and up to the Divine Throne (Arsh).
Again he got the reply “You are not ready yet” and was sent back into the Hujraah. Another year passed and on being questioned by his Peer O Murshid he replied, ‘I can see up to the Glorious Veil (al-Hijaab e Azmat) that veils the Creator from us and beyond the veil.”

Khawaajah Usmaan Harooni (May Allaah Kareem be well pleased with him) then held out two fingers and asked him to look through them and say what he sees. He replied, “I can see the 1800 universes.”
Allaah Kareem (Almighty and Glorious is He) says, Sacred Hadee (Qudsi) or Allaah Kareem’s Sacred Saying, reported  by the Holy Prophet (Peace be upon him, his family and his companions) Allaah Kareem says:

“When My servant loves Me and proceeds towards Me with the intensity of love by leading a righteous, godly, and pious life beyond what I have prescribed as obligatory, then he arrives at the stage where I come to love him. When I make him My beloved, I become his faculty of audition by which he hears, and his faculty of sight by which he sees, and the hands with which he holds, and the feet with which he walks and the tongue with which he speaks.
And Baihaaqi added:
And the mind with which he thinks"

In the light of this Hadees it is possible to partially understand this transformation in Khawaajah Saahib. He penetrated the thin line separating the material world from the unseen: the inner organs of perception opened and so did his universe expand.

Hazrat Saiyyidinaa Khawaajah Saiyyid Mu'een ud deen Hasan Chishti Ajmeri Sarkaar Gareeb Nawaaz (Radiyal Laahu 'Anhu)

Translated Lecture of Hazrat Maulana Muhammad Shafee Okarvi- [Rahmatul Laahi Alaieh]-South Africa
Hazrat Saiyyidinaa Khawaajah Saiyyid Mu'een ud deen Hasan
Chishti Ajmeri Sarkaar Gareeb Nawaaz (Radiyal Laahu 'Anhu)
Spiritual Blossoming
At the age of 9; he committed the Holy Qur’aan to memory.  He was 16 yrs old when his father passed into the realm of Divine Beauty and he inherited a grinding stone and an orchard, which formed a source of his livelihood. A Madjzoub  saint, Hazrat Ibraaheem Qandoozi (may Allaah Kareem be well pleased with him) paid Khawaajah Saahib a visit at his orchard. Being from a refined  family background, even at this young age, Khwaajah Saahib knew what reverence and respect should be shown to the people of Allaah Kareem; he laid out a sheet [Chaadar] for Hazrat Ibraaheem Qandoozi to sit on and offered him a few grapes from the garden.

Hazrat Ibraahem Qandoozi (may Allaah Kareem be well pleased with him) was pleased on seeing this respect and love that the young Hazrat Saahib had shown him and took out a piece of bread from his sack and chewed on it. He then took out the chewed bread from his mouth and placed it in Khwaajah Saahib’s mouth. An instant transformation occurred, in keeping with the Sunnah of the Holy Prophet (Peace be upon him, his family and his companions). The Madjzoub saint left. On eating the bread from Hazrat Ibraaheem Qandoozi (may Allaah Kareem be well pleased with him) Khawaajah Saahib penetrated the thin line separating the material world from the unseen: the inner organs of perception opened and so did his universe expand. The veil of worldly imagination was lifted from his mind and he found himself in quite a strange world radiating with divine manifestation. With this expanded view of the universe, Khawaajah Saahib went to his mother and related the encounter with Hazrat Ibraaheem Qandoozi at the orchard. He sought her permission to shed all material possessions and to dedicate his life to Allaah Kareem and His Holy Prophet (Peace be upon him, his family and his companions).

to be continued-In Shaa Allaah!

Hazrat Saiyyidinaa Khawaajah Saiyyid Mu'een ud deen Hasan Chishti Ajmeri Sarkaar Gareeb Nawaaz (Radiyal Laahu 'Anhu)The Spiritual Master of Spiritual Masters (Khawaajah e Khawaajahgaan) Khawaajah Mueen ud deen Hasan Chisht

Translated Lecture of Hazrat Maulana Muhammad Shafee Okarvi- [Rahmatul Laahi Alaieh]-South Africa
The Spiritual Master of Spiritual Masters (Khawaajah e Khawaajahgaan) Khawaajah Mueen ud deen Hasan Chishti Ajmeri’s birth given name was Hasan. He was in direct lineage of the Holy Prophet Muhammad (Peace be upon him, his family and his companions). Through his father Hazrat Saiyyid Ghiyaas ud deen (may Allaah Kareem be well pleased with him), paternally descent from the Holy Prophet’s grandson, Hazrat Imaam Husaien (May Allaah Kareem be well pleased with him).

Through his mother, Hazrat Mah Noor Bibi, who was given the title, Umm ul-Waraa he was linked maternally to the Holy Prophet’s grandson, Hazrat Imaam Hasan (may Allaah Kareem be well pleased with him).   Thus he is a Hasani and a Husaieni Saiyyid. Within me resounds the melody of Kalimaa,
The melody that love has taught me to hear.
Why don’t you put away your books,
And forget that you have learnt from them –
For within the Kalimaa you will find The fourteen inner realms.
Scholars sharpen reeds into pens,
But they are not capable of writing the true Kalimaa.
This Kalimaa has rid me of all afflictions Of the body and mind –
Only a Master could have taught it to me, O Baahuu.- -

My Master(Spiritual Guide) has planted in my heart,
The jasmine of Allaah [Ta'aalaa’s] Name.
Both my denial that the Creation is real And my embracing of God,
the only reality, Have nourished the seedling down to its core.
When the buds of mystery unfolded Into the blossoms of revelation,
My entire being was filled with [Allaah Kareem] God’s Fragrance.
May the perfect Master Who planted this jasmine in my heart,
Be ever blessed, O Baahuu!

Hazrat Sultaan Baahuu (Rahmatul Laahi ‘Alaieh) (1630 - 1691 AD) belonged to the Qaadiri Order of Soofie  and is known by the title of Sultaan-ul-Arifeen (king of the Gnostics). He is acknowledged as one of the most prominent Soofie poets of the Indo-Pak subcontinent.
Sultaan Baahuu like many other soofie saints of the South Asia, was  a prolific writer, with more than 100 books attributed to him. However, as the majority of his books deal with specialized subjects related to Islaam, it is his Punjabi poetry that has generated popular appeal and made him a household name in the region.....

Hazrat Maulana Jalaal ud deen Ruumi (Rahmatul Laahi ‘Alaieh)

Life is only for devotion.
Life without devotion (worship or total submission) is disgrace.
Remembrance of him is the foundation of faith.
The beggars are like kings due to his [Allaah Kareem] Remembrances.
Hazrat Prophet Muhammad [Peace be upon him] was purified of worldly things,
So he got this reward:
God [Allaah Ta’aalaa] said to him, whatever direction you face your prayer,
My face is to that direction.

His soul like an eagle of Heaven as God called him Mercy for all the creations of God.
There is no greater or better of all the Prophets than Muhammad [Peace be upon Him]
