Kanzul Ieemaan & Alaa Hazrat Imaam Razaa Khaan Barelvi [Rahmatul Laah Alaieh]

Kanzul Ieemaan The Treasure Of Faith (translation of the Qur'aan)

Alaa Hazrat Imaam Ahmad Razaa Khaan Barellvi

[Rahmatul Laahi Alaieh]- 1330 AH [1911 CE]

Kanzul iman

At the age of 58, the Imaam Blessed the world with an accurate translation of the Qur’āan, Kanzul Ieemaan.

It is associated with the Hanafi jurisprudence within Sunni Islaam all over the world and is considered widely read version of translation. It has been subsequently translated into other European and South Asian languages including English, Hindi, Bengali, Dutch, Turkish, Sindhi, Gujarati and Pashto.

Translation and commentary of the Holy Qur’aan

Many people have translated the Holy Qur’aan into the Urdu language, but the translation of the Holy Qur’aan presented by Alaa Hazrat – called “Kanzul Ieemaan” – is proven to be the most unique translation in the Urdu language. In his translation one sees that Alaa Hazrat [Rahmatul Laah Alaieh] used only those words in his translation that are worthy for the Attributes and Qualities of Almighty Allaah and of His Beloved Rasool [Sallal Laahu Alaieh Wa Sallam]

It is said that the translation of the Holy Qur’aan by Alaa Hazrat, Kanzul Ieemaan, is not merely a literal translation, but is also the commentary of the Holy Qur’aan. In the words of Hazrat Saiyyidinah Muhaddis-e-A’zam Hind [Rahmatul Laahi Alaieh] “it is not only the translation of the Qur’aan, it is the Qur’aan.”

We have taken just one example of a Verse from the Holy Qur’aan that has been translated by various persons and compared it with the beautiful translation of Alaa Hazrat [Rahmatul Laahi Alaieh]

We have taken Soorah 93, Verse 7 as an example:

(1) “And He found you lost on the way and He guided thee.”

Translation by Mohammad Asad

(2) “And found thee groping so He showed the way.”

Translation by Muhammed Ali Lahori Qaiyidaani

(3) “And He found you uninformed of Islaamic laws so He told you the way of Islaamic laws.”

Translation by Ashraf Ali Thanvi

(4) “Did He not find thee erring and guide thee.”

Translation by Arberry

(5) “And saw you unaware of the way so showed you the straight way.”

Translation by Fatheh Muhammad Jallendari

(6) “And He found thee wandering and He gave thee guidance.”

Translation by Yoosuf Ali

Now that we have examined six different translations of Soorah 93, Verse 7, let us examine the difference and the uniqueness of the translation of Alaa Hazrat [Rahmatul Laahi Alaieh]

“and He found you drowned in his love therefore gave way unto Him.”

Look at the uniqueness and the cautiousness that is present in this translation of Hazrat Imaam Ahmad Razaa  [Rahmatul Laahi Alaieh] He abstained from using those words that may cause any disrespect to the dignity and personality of the Holy Prophet [Sallal Laahu Alaieh Wa Sallam]

Real worth of this monumental work can be evaluated by only those scholars who possess vast and deep knowledge of various other translations and explanations of high standard in Urdu. Alaa Hazrat kept the same pattern as adopted by the renown writers, but he excelled in the explanation and expansion of the most difficult and complicated subject matter in relatively few simple words.”
