MAI’RAAJ UN NABEE -
Hazrat Allaamah Kaukab Noorani Okarvi
[Sallal Laahu Alaieh Wa Sallam]
Believers celebrate this night in connection with the journey of Mai'raaj of Holy Prophet Muhammad ﷺ. This night is celebrated as Eid Mai'raaj u Nabee, Jashn e Mai'raaj un Nabee in Pakistan. Gatherings of Zikr are conducted, in this regard we are gathered here, and may Allaah Kareem accept our participation (Aameen). It is impossible to give details of this journey therefore I will tell you this event summarily. Keep this important point in mind that one who denies the journey of Mai'raaj from Masjid al Haram to Masjid al Aqsa is Kaafir (non-believer) because it has been clearly mentioned in Holy Quraan.
The one who does not believe the journey from heavens to Kabaah Kausaien is devoid of love of Ieemaan and blessings. This visit has been mentioned in the Holy Quraan.
The Holy Qur'aan...
Bismil Laahir Rahmaa Nir Raheem
[Soorah Israa-Quraan]-
“Glorious is He Who made his servant travel by night from Al- Masjid-ul-Haram to Al-Masjid-ul-Aqsa whose environs We have blessed, so that We let him see some of Our signs.
Surely, He is the All-Hearing, the All-Seeing.”
Shab e Mai'raaj the 27th night of the month of Rajab.
Keep this important point in mind that one who denies the journey of Mai'raaj from Masjid al Haram to Masjid al Aqsa is Kaafir (non-believer) because it has been clearly mentioned in Holy Quraan...
The one who does not believe the journey from Masjid Al Aqsa to heavens is Faasiq (wrong doer). The one who does not believe the journey from heavens to Kabaah Kausaien is devoid of love of Ieemaan and blessings. This visit has been mentioned in the Holy Quraan. First I will give answers to few objections and then I will discuss the journey.
Allaah Almighty says,
“Glorious is He Who made his servant travel by night” LAIELLAN, means within the short part of the night. From Masjid al Haram to Masjid al Aqsa".
Which Masjid Aqsa, that Masjid Aqsa whose environs have been blessed by Allaah Kareem.
Why did Allaah [Ta’aalaa] made Holy Prophet Muhammad ﷺ to visit, in order to show His signs that belong to vision.
No doubt Allaah Kareem is All Hearing and All Watching. In this verse Arabic word INNAHUU there is zameer which according to some scholars points towards Allaah that
He made his servant visit while others say it is pointing towards Prophet Muhammad ﷺ i.e. he was made to visit.
I accept both versions that Allaah Almighty is watching and hearing the Prophet and Prophet Muhammad [Peace be upon Him] seeing and hearing Allaah Kareem; so dispute got solved.
This verse started with the word SUBHAAN, which means devoid or free from all objections and shortcomings. By starting with the word “Subhaan”, Allaah Kareem has shunned all the objections.
Those people who say how a human being visited heavens, how he lived without oxygen, on this earth one may stay on one leg but cannot raise both legs how the Holy Prophet Muhammad ﷺ went at such height, there are two zones in the atmosphere one is so much cold other is so much hot how he passed from there, how he completed such a long journey in a small part of the night.
Allaah Kareem has answered all objections by saying that Great is “HE” Who took Prophet on that journey.
We all know that Allaah [Ta’aalaa] can do whatever He likes, He has no limits or weakness; we cannot even think of any Weakness or limit for HIM.[Jalla Shaanuhu]
If Holy Prophet Muhammad ﷺ had made such claim that he visited Masjid al Aqsa, Heavens and beyond that in a short part of night all Muslims would have accepted and approved it.
But Allaah Kareem was aware that there will be such persons who would raise objections, Allaah [Jalla Shaanuhu] did not want to have objections over His beloved Prophet Muhammad ﷺ therefore Allaah Almighty said I took him on that journey so whoever has any objection he may Object to Me Allaah [Ta’aalaa] not Prophet ﷺ as whoever objects Allaah Kareem, people will come to know that he does not believe in the powers of Allaah [Ta’aalaa].
Therefore Allaah Kareem did not ask Prophet Muhammad ﷺ to claim but claimed Himself that He took prophet to that journey [Laielatul Mai'raaj].
I have said something that is enough for the believers, in spite of all this there are people who measure belief with rationale or common sense; they do not have answers regarding their own existence.
I would not like to waste time in their fruitless discussion and objections. I would just like to ask, if one believes in Qur’aan and Allaah Ta’aalaa, is there any space for objections yet? No.
However, few people say that this was spiritual Mai’raaj not of the physical body or this event happened in the dream. Those people who say that it happened in the dream are worse than Abu Jahal.
If this had been dream, Abu Jahal would never had objected because he himself had dreams as a human being. He also objected that how did Prophet Muhammad ﷺ travel such a long distance with his physical body? Those who say Mai’raaj was a dream they live in dreams because my Prophet Muhammad ﷺ had Mai’raaj with physical body while he was awake.
HAZRAT IMAAM BUSIREE & SAFAR E MAIRAAJ UN NABEE
[Sallal Laahu Alaieh Wa Sallam]
Hazrat Imaam al-Ajal Saiyyidi Muhammad Buseeri [Rahmatul Laah Alaieh], in his renowned Qaseedah Burdaah Shareef states:
سريت من حرم ليلا الى حرم
كما سرى البدر في داج من الظلم
The Habeeb of Allaah [Sallal Laahu Alaieh Wa Sallam], in a short space of time, traveled from Masjid al-Haraam to Masjid al-Aqsa. This sacred journey was bright like the brilliance of the full moon.
و بت ترقى الى ان نلت منزلة
و من قاب قوسين لم تدرك و لم ترم
The Beloved Prophet [Peace be upon Him] traveled in the night of Mai’raaj until he reached the station of Qaaba Qausaien No creation could reach this height nor possessed the courage to do so.
خفضت كل مقام بالاضافة اذ
نوديت بالرفع مثل مفرد العلم
The noble status of the Nabee [Sallal Laahu Alaieh Wa Sallam] left everything below him when he proceeded towards the Divine Heights of the Unique Lord, on the Night of Ascension.
فخرت كل فخار غير مشترك
و جزت كل مقام غير مزدحم
The Beloved Rasool ul Laah enjoyed such excellence that no one can share. He passed such places where no creation set foot. [Qaseedah al-Burdaah Shareef, Chapter 7
7. Allamaah Mullaah Alee Qaari [Rahmatul Laah Alaieh] in his Sharaa elaborates on Hazrat Imaam Buseeri's verses:
اى انت دخلت الباب و قطعت الحجاب الى ان لم تترك غاية لساع الى السبق من كمال التقرّب المطلق الى جناب الحق و لا تركت موضع رقى و صعود وقيام وقعود لطالبفعة فى عالم الوجود بل تجاوزت ذالك الى مقام قاب قوسين او ادنى فاوحى اليك ربّك ما اوحى
Our Beloved Prophet Muhammad Rasoolul Laah ﷺ.passed all the Secret Curtains and reached the Divine Absolute Presence of the Supreme Creator, as one reaches one's goal leaving everyone behind. There was no step of excellence in the entire universe that the Master ﷺ. did not surpass. In fact, the Leader of Muslim Ummah transcended above the domain of space and time and entered the Station of Qaaba-Qosaien and Aw' Adnaa. Then, Allaah the Supreme spoke to the Beloved what He had to Say.
Another object that is being spread among the public that no one can see Allaah [Ta’aalaa], on internet and electronic media, SMS, facebook etc. as argument they recite verse from Quraan.
Let me read the verse and answer to this objection as well.
Allaah [Ta’aalaa] says in Holy Qur’aan that eye cannot completely perceive or observe Him. For example I am watching people sitting in front of me, I have eyes and I am watching. So what is the height and body of a person, is my eye perceiving it or not?
Even when you see someone you perceive that whether he is tall, short, fat or slim etc. Qur’aan says eyes cannot completely perceive Allaah Ta’aalaa; we never say that Prophet ﷺ completely perceived Allaah Kareem. Which Islaamic scholar says that Prophet’s eye perceived Allaah Ta’aalaa?
We believe that Prophet Muhammad ﷺ saw Allaah Almighty not perceived Him. There is a difference between vision and perception.
They say that Hazrat Ummul Mu'mineen Saiyyidatunaa Aaishah Siddeeqah
[Radiyal Laahu 'Anhaa]says that she did not find Hazrat Muhammad ﷺ missing from his bed. They also recite the verse mentioned earlier; they press that this is a mere dream without any physical involvement. We respect mother Hazrat Ummul Mu'mineen and whatever she said but tell us that was Hazrat Ummul Mu'mineen Aaishah Siddeeqah
[Radiyal Laahu 'Anhaa] married to Prophet Muhammad ﷺ at the time of Mai’raaj?
The answer is no; so how can she give such statement? The reality is that these people have doubts in their own hearts; their knowledge is wrong but the event of Mai’raaj is true to the belief.
We also support the statement of Hazrat Ummul Mu'mineen Saiyyidatunaa Aaishah Siddeeqah
[Radiyal Laahu 'Anhaa] that no eye can perceive Allaah [Ta’aalaa], we do not believe in perception but seeing of Allaah Kareem.
Neither have we believed that Allaah Kareem has some definite body that can be perceived, nor direction.
Now let’s come towards Deedaar or seeing of Allaah Kareem. As long as seeing Allaah Ta’aalaa in dream is concerned anyone can see Allaah Kareem in dream, you may see Him.
Hazrat Imaam A’zam Abu Haneefa [Rahmatul Laah Alaieh] our Imaam due to which we are known as Hanafee says he saw Allaah Almighty 360 times in his life.
Even today people see Allaah Kareem in dreams, just like Noor is seen in dreams. Allaah Ta’aalaa shows Himself to whom He likes. I told you about seeing Allaah Ta’aalaa in dream.
Hazrat Muhammad ﷺ said, When Jannati (those who will be blessed with paradise on the Day of Judgment) will enter in paradise, Allaah Ta’aalaa will ask them O my servants are you happy? They will reply we are very happy. Allaah Kareem will say I will make you happier. Allaah Kareem will show Himself to them.
As one sees the full moon without any doubt, similarly Jannati will see Allaah Ta’aalaa in the Jannah. When Jannati will see Allaah in paradise than what is wrong if the owner of that paradise sees Allaah Kareem before them?
We will see Allaah Ta’aalaa in Jannah when we will enter Jannah by the will of Allaah (In shaa Allaah) but he [Prophet Muhammad ﷺ is the owner of Jannah as declared by Allaah Kareem if he had to see Allaah Almighty along with us that what would be the difference between us and him (Prophet)?
Allaah [Jalla Shaanuhu] said O Muhammad ﷺ Jannati will see me in Jannah but as I have made you owner of this paradise so you may see Me now.
Let’s come towards Quraan that whether Allaah [Jalla Shaanuhu] can be seen or not?
Hazrat Moosa [Alaiehis Salaam] a very graceful Prophet of Allaah [Jalla Shaanuhu] requests Almighty Allaah, “O Allaah show me Yourself, I want to see You”.
Hazrat Moosaa [Alaiehis Salaam] talked to Almighty Allaah, after hearing the voice of Allaah Kareem he wanted to see Allaah [Jalla Shaanuhu] that when voice is so sweet how much Divine Allaah [Jalla Shaanuhu] Himself would be.
What was the reply? O Moosaa [Alaiehis Salaam] you cannot see Me.
Allaah did not say that I cannot be seen or I (Allaah) cannot be covered by vision but said you cannot see me. Allaah [Jalla Shaanuhu] may clearly have said that I cannot be seen but Allaah [Ta’aalaa] said you cannot see me which shows that someone may see Allaah Kareem.
Who is that someone, the one whom Allaah [Jalla Shaanuhu] wants. Allaah [Ta’aalaa] did not say that what question you have asked; no one can see ME [Allaah Ta’aalaa] but said you cannot see me but someone can see Me whom Allaah Kareem likes.
Here what point has been explained by scholars and Soofiyaa e Kiraam is that we believe that Allaah [Kareem] has Self (Zaat), than His features, His names and then His acts. Self, Features, Names and Acts.
His names, features and acts are more than one thus reflections are more than one but Self (Allaah Kareem) is one thus reflection is only one Prophet Muhammad ﷺ.
Hazrat Moosaa [Alaiehis Salaam] is the reflection of features but requested about Allaah’s Self, so the reply was that you can see My feature or its reflection but not Myself.
In the question and answer between Allaah [Jalla Shaanuhu] and Hazrat Moosaa [Alaiehis Salaam] it has been cleared that Allaah Kareem can be seen. Hazrat Moosaa [Alaiehis Salaam] wanted to see Allaah Kaream, therefore Allaah Almighty said look at the mountain (Toor),Hazrat Moosaa [Alaiehis Salaam] saw the mountain and Allaah Kareem showed HIS reflection on that mountain.
Rab our Lord [Allaah Kareem] is not the personal name but feature, when reflection of feature was put on the mountain, it burnt into ashes.
Hazrat Moosaa [Alaiehis Salaam] himself got fainted and could not see the reflection of Allaah Kareem’s feature but our Prophet Muhammad ﷺ saw Allaah Almighty Himself smilingly.
Imagine the grace [Maqaam-Status] of our Beloved Holy Prophet Muhammad ﷺ . Now recite the verse of poetry by A’ala Hazrat you will understand its meanings.
“Someone should ask [Hazrat] Moosa [Alaiehis Salaam] whom did he saw,
Uncounted Salaam and Salutations Blessings over the eyes who saw Allaah Kareem Himself”.
Hazrat Moosaa [Alaiehis Salaam] could not see the feature but reflection of the feature. Look at the Tafseer Naeemi by Hakeem ul Ummat Maulana Ahmad Yaar Khan Naeemi [Rahmatul Laah Alaieh] he writes Hazrat Moosaa [Alaiehis Salaam] saw the reflection of feature, what happened to him?
In the dark night Hazrat Moosaa [Alaiehis Salaam] was able to see a black ant faraway over the mountains and even could listen its walking sound. This was the vision of the one who saw the reflection of feature so what would be the status of the one who saw the Allaah Kareem Himself; he [Our belief is our Beloved Rasool ﷺ is watching us from his grave]
Our believes are not artificial, Allaah Kareem did not hide himself from him how can Allaah [Ta’aalaa] hide anything from him (Our beloved Prophet ﷺ).
We believe in seeing of Allaah Almighty by Prophet Muhammad ﷺ.
Allaah Kareem said, Moosaa! [Alaiehis Salaam] if that mountain stood at its place you would see Me.
Is that possible that mountain stands at its place, Yes!
So seeing Allaah Kareem is also possible. So Allaah [Ta’aalaa] can be seen but who can see HIM?
Whom Allaah Almighty wants to show Himself.
Allaah Kareem showed His Beloved Prophet Muhammad ﷺ that Prophet Moosaa [Alaiehis Salaam] who is Kaleem Ul laah [who talked with Allaah [Jalla Shaanuhu]] who wanted to see Me (Allaah) he left his house for mountain of Toor, he had fasted for 40 days and then requested to see Allaah [Ta’aalaa] but Allaah Almighty said that you cannot see ME.
People say what is the difference between Habeeb Ul laah [Beloved] and Kaleem Ul laah, Kaleem is also a great status but Habeeb is Greater.
The difference is that Kaleem leaves his house, had fasted for 40 days and then request for Deedaar [Vision of Almighty Allaah] but the answer is you cannot see ME but the Habeeb [Rasoolul Laah ﷺ ]did not go anywhere, did not fast, did not request but is present in the Hateem (a round place of Kaabah).
Allaah Kareem orders Hazrat Jibraaeel [Alaiehis Salaam] to take Buraaq [Heavenly Horse] from Jannah and 70000 Angels along with other things from Jannah and go and ask [Prophet] Muhammad ﷺ that Kaleem wanted to see Allaah Kareem but Allaah [Ta’aalaa] wants to see you. Reading poetry…
“O Allaah your grace, verily Your worthy of Independence, on the one hand saying that you cannot see me and the one hand longing to meet, this was the time that [Hazrat]Jibraaeel came with the news that come O Beloved of Almighty Allaah, the ways that were closed for Kaleem [Moosaa Alaiehis Salaam] have been opened for you”
Hazrat Muhammad ﷺ has mentioned that event in various Ahadees, a very lengthy Hadees has been quoted by all books of Ahadees I will just quote few parts out it.
Hazrat Muhammad ﷺ was resting in the Hateem [round place of Kaabah or house of Hazrat Alee [Radiyal Laahu Anhu] Umme Haani that was also near to Kaabah]as this event is before the Hijrat from Makaah to Madeenah.
Hazrat Jibraaeel [Alaiehis Salaam] came in the night, why the time of night was chosen for the visit, why Allaah Kareem called Muhammad ﷺ over the 7th heaven while Allaah Kareem is present everywhere; all these are the questions based upon the common sense or rationale of people. Alaas! You have not learnt religion.
This is the universe of Allaah [Ta’aalaa], He called the Prophet ﷺthere, where the concept of where, here there ends. How one can object the act of Allaah Kareem. By calling Prophet ﷺ over the Arsh (7th heaven) that is above all the places it was showed by Allaah Kareem that we all need some place but Prophet Muhammad ﷺ did not. Allaah [Ta’aalaa] proved that you cannot live without oxygen, earth and other necessities but Prophet ﷺ can live without all these things because he only needs Allaah Kareem and we all need him [Prophet ﷺ].
